December 10, 2009 marked the 61st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In Sri Lanka several events were organized to highlight the human rights concerns. This year in the context of a presidential election campaign.

The first news story “Human Rights and Election promises” features interviews with people from the united campaign ‘Platform to Freedom’ composed of civil society organizations from all over Sri Lanka. They want to make people think about the future and they are seriously questioning the leadership of Sri Lanka.

The second news story “Torture in Sri Lanka” features interviews with the RCT partner Janasansadaya as well as interviewees familiar to RCT over the years in Sri Lanka. One of them being a dedicated lawyer taking the very difficult cases in High Court and helping in the Janasansadaya project against police torture.
